hollow trunk

The twisted, long dead, rotted out trunk
that stands outside the cabin
a sculpted monument to time’s ceaseless erosion
reaches out to nothingness

Streaked dark and wet above, blond and tan beneath
with the bleaching of countless rainy days like this one

The once solid timber, now soft and powdery inside
has been a home to numberless bugs and worms

Abandoned cobwebs adorn it’s decayed interior
It stands alone in ageless hoary decrepitude
A beautiful paean to death

our long standing friend,
who needs not speak
but shows the way

Here is love
in all it’s raw-boned beauty
dripping timelessly and flowing
In collected rivers of human longing
let this river bear you away
past long dead hurts and sorrow

Now is here to collect you
into it’s tender embrace
and soothe your shattered senses and heart
Effortlessly like a flower
tipping in the warm, wet breeze
ever connected to the earth
and the source of life and joy

In all dimensions of our collective universe
from the infinitesimal to the galactic
we find a consistent principal...
a law of attraction between polarized bodies

Waves of energy ... coalescing intelligence
the breathing, vibrating presence
with that each of us is equipped
Inner antennae tuned, as it were
to the marvelously creative multiverse

The twisted vines of want and confusion drop away,
lay dormant in a season of ripeness
the heart opens and this vast wonderland... reclaimed
that a body is free to enjoy
when attentive to the dream that dreams itself

The rain picks up again
with the effortless gravity of eternity
It is now...
it has always been now and will ever be

weightless yet exerting a subtle pressure
that skin can absorb yet not record
It is moving, yet is going nowhere
It has not arrived
it is here, now.... And will not.... cannot leave

A crow is cawing strangely, delicately in the distance
He is listening now
and his rasping voice forgotten,
is silent

The dripping trees next to the cabin
added to the gurgle of the stream nearby
is so enchanting, is as deep as the deepest ocean

Dripping with silence, the trees gentle and still
their green loveliness
overwhelms the eye
like the first draft of strong drink to a drunkard

The dark trunks rise emphatically
holding their precious cargo of life
a simple, yet noble gift to the unthinking animal
that flies from branch to bough

Almost too much beauty to take in, yet there it is
Not insisting, just there
without fanfare or drama
but more telling than any Shakespearean sonnet

Airy

and alone

This life has not been easy for you

a house and a yard full of broken things

A collection of mementos

useless except to remember

something that seems unconnected

guests that stay a long time

One child after another

Each so different from the other

a long silence and inner suffering

not shared or understood

many disappointments

and beds none of them home

the center is where?

everywhere and not at all

How could i start?

i can't even find the door

out here among strangers

that take apart the stairs

cautious isolated neighbors

each building a compound or a franchise

how could they possibly understand?

but one day it must begin
